Moving to Australia as a nurse, where to start?
I'm a nurse looking to move to Australia with my husband and son. I have five years experience and educated to degree level. I live in Scotland
I'm not sure where to start with moving and how difficult it may be?
Hi there CmcKim and welcome to our community 😊
Firstly, congrats for having a very sought after occupation, that's half the battle won! 😀
I wrote quite a long article on nursing in Australia which you can find https://gettingdownunder.com/nursing-jobs-australia /" target="true">here,
Though the article is a little old, the vast majority is still relevant and will serve as a good starting point from a background/options perspective. We also list Australian Sponsored Jobs here so we do the search referenced in this article for you. Searching for the term 'Nurse' will bring up the current sponsored opportunities available.
For the independent visa path (not requiring a sponsor from a state, relative or employer) the number of 'points' you have is also considered important With this in mind, if you haven't already, take a little while to do a points test here: Australia Points Test.
That's a lot of 'stuff' I've linked to there so please take a little while to read, absorb and come back if you have any questions. Also, worth a shoutout to the office resource from the Australian migration department here: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/ which is worthy of a browse through.
Please do get back to us if you have any questions.
