UNSW Canberra Space is the leading institution in Australia for intelligent small satellite and space domain awareness technology and education. Since 2015 we have secured over $30M in funding, enabling us to develop and operate 5 satellites over 4 missions featuring advanced optical and radio frequency (RF) payloads. Our latest ‘M2’ satellite pair provides Australia’s first fully reprogrammable intelligent space platform and has mission objectives centred on Earth Observation; Maritime and space domain awareness; Optical communication; Space environment science; and advanced Formation flying approaches.
The team is committed to advancing Australia’s ability to safely and securely use space in the face of an increasingly congested and contested environment. Our multi-disciplinary space domain awareness research encompasses in-orbit and ground-based optical and passive RF sensor technology, which feeds our artificial intelligence infused ‘mission system’ concepts.
The space research and education programs delivered by UNSW Canberra Space require contributions from a broad range of skills and experiences to realise our goal to connect innovative space technology across the ground and space segments to deliver genuine benefits to society. We seek people with a strong desire to work in a multi-disciplinary research environment that can deliver real outcomes from real space missions. Candidates with experience in space-related fields including optical and RF space surveillance technologies; satellite communications; astrodynamics; artificial intelligence; space/air traffic management; high performance computing; space environment modelling and simulation; satellite mission design; payload design and integration; guidance, navigation, and control; or space systems engineering are encouraged to apply.

The School of Engineering and Information Technology (SEIT) is seeking applications for a full-time position in Space Engineering.
Role: Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Space Engineering
Salary: Academic Level B $111,563 – $131,517 (pro-rata) plus 17% Superannuation
Academic Level C $135,504 – $155,460 (pro-rata) plus 17% Superannuation
Term: Full time, Fixed Term appointment up to 5 years

Our Ideal Candidate:
This role will contribute to course and program delivery, development and innovation, in a team-teaching environment. It will also increase and expand the research and knowledge exchange profiles of SEIT to complement SEIT’s existing strengths. The position will conduct impactful multidisciplinary research and educating the next generation of Australian leaders and scholars in this important and growing field.
The successful applicant will become a part of a community of people seeking to enhance research, teaching and engagement within the School, University and Globally. The successful applicant may develop a research focused, education focused, or balanced workload.
The successful applicant will be expected to develop an educational profile that incorporates classroom and on-line teaching, research and research training, social engagement and global impact, and contribution to the development of the holistic environment in the School. We want our academics to choose the range of activities that support the School’s research and teaching missions and fulfil the ambitions of the academics themselves.
