The Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria are botanic gardens across two sites – Melbourne and Cranbourne. Melbourne Gardens was founded in 1846 when the land was reserved on the south side of the Yarra River for a new botanic garden. It extends across 36 hectares that slope to the river with trees, garden beds, lakes and lawns

The botanic gardens look pretty neat! It's cool that the gardens have free admission. With all these cool places in Melbourne, I feel I probably need at least a couple weeks to check everything out!

If you visit the gardens in summer and go onto the forest walks please keep your eyes on the path. Yep…snakes. There are snakes living in the Gardens because of the proximity to the Yarra river running through the city. They aren't a common sight (snakes don't like noise and crowds) but they are there and they are venomous…very venomous! In the gardens you can come across Tiger Snakes and Eastern Brown Snakes. Only put Coffee Cups in the recycle if it's 100% cardboard. Most coffee cups have a plastic ring on the top of the cup so please look out. There have been a lot of coffee cups sent the wrong way through our waste systems.
